'Pakistan desires a peaceful, prosperous and stable Afghanistan'

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi told to his Afghan counterpart on Wednesday that Pakistan was desirous of a peaceful, prosperous and stable Afghanistan.

Whilst having a telephonic conversation with Afghanistan's Foreign Minister (acting) Mohammad Hanif Atmar, FM Qureshi stressed that peace in Afghanistan was linked to peace and stability in the region.

"Intra Afghan dialogue provides an excellent opportunity for peace and the Afghan leadership must seize this opportunity," he said. "It is imperative to make the intra-afghan dialogue result-oriented in order to realise the dream of durable peace in Afghanistan," the minister observed.

The FM reiterated that Pakistan would continue its sincere efforts for peace and stability in the region including Afghanistan.

"Pakistan has announced a new visa policy to facilitate the travel of Afghan people," Qureshi told Atmar, while alluding to the historic fraternal ties between the two countries.

Moreover, the foreign minister is also said to have discussed the Quetta and Peshawar blasts with his Afghan counterpart. The two also discussed Pakistan's apprehensions and the information gathered about the attacks.

Qureshi conveyed to Atmar that the Afghan soil should not be used to carry out attacks against Pakistan.

On October 26, Prime Minister Imran Khan described peace in Afghanistan vital for regional peace and prosperity, stressing that trade and economic links would open a new era of cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

PM also said that the incumbent Indian government was the worst example of fascism despite its tall claim of being the largest democracy, and expressed fear that India might use Afghan soil to destabilise Pakistan.

Pakistan fears India will use Afghanistan to destabilise us,” the prime minister told the seminar. “We tried to be friends with India but could not succeed. We realise that India is ideologically against Pakistan,” the PM said at the inaugural ceremony of the two-day Pakistan-Afghanistan Trade and Investment Forum.
